About
Hi. You are probably not looking for a lot of factual information so it’ll be more fun writing about other things. It probably suffices to say that I’m 25 and living in France ;-)
I am utterly fascinated by flight, movement through air, and often looking up to the sky. I hold and nurture another passion, for the concept of free software and the extraordinary influence that it can have on our society.
Among things I enjoy are: Taking the train, the smell of cinnamon, sitting by a river, photographing birds in flight, going fast downhill on a mountain bike, a quiet morning to myself, skimming the waters pulled by the wind (windsurfing!), hiking, listening to a lot of music, chocolate ice cream, and re-discovering things.
Among the things I don’t enjoy are: things that can’t be fixed, wasting food, the sound and sight of TV, unreliable bus timetables, programming, and British weather.
I have the pleasure and privilege to work together with Gustavo Narea for GNU/Linux Matters, a non-profit we co-founded to bring the concept of free software to a large public, particularly through GetGNULinux.org.
Outside of this, I have written LifesNotReadOnly.net, a personal take on life and copyright, and GenderShouldntMatter.org, an effort to reverse the gender imbalance in the free software community [these as well as the present site are strictly personal and not related to GNU/Linux Matters].
I’d love to hear from you. My email is olivier -preceeding- ariadacapo.net and my PGP key is 3D9E4880. There’s also a convenient contact form.
Why “ariadacapo”
If you enjoy music by J.S. Bach you probably are familiar with the Goldberg Variations, a long series of short music pieces for keyboard instrument. The composition starts with the aria (theme), followed by thirty unique variations which keep the same construction. After this long journey, through a multitude of ideas, tempos, exchanges, we arrive to the aria da capo, return of the initial theme.
I always am moved by this return. The very same music takes a different color after the journey. I like that nickname for that reason, although I certainly don’t pretend to incarnate it :-)
